On August 11, 2021, the U.S. Department of Labor (the Department), Employment and Training Administration (ETA) announced its Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tiger Team consultative services initiative to support states in three (3) functional areas: 1) fraud prevention and detection, 2) promote equitable access and 3) ensure timely payment of benefits and reduce backlogs across all Unemployment Compensation (UC) programs.

What is a Tiger Team?
The Department leverages a multi-disciplinary team of experts (i.e., Tiger Teams) designed specifically to analyze state UI systems and process challenges within the functional areas, in addition to identifying state promising practices to leverage in future consultative engagements. Tiger Teams work with states to identify opportunities to enhance their existing efforts and make actionable recommendations, with allocated grant funding, for states to implement.
